How Do Antibody Rapid Tests Work?

The Mannheim-based pharmaceutical company, Pharmact GmbH, launched the world’s first highly sensitive SARS-CoV-2 rapid test at the beginning of March this year. The test detects immunoglobulin M and immunoglobulin G antibodies against the SARS-CoV-2 virus reliably in the blood within 20 minutes without needing a laboratory.

“First of all, it is important to stress that the PCR test, which is the common laboratory test, and the antibody rapid test detect two different facets of the disease and are not comparable.”, Dr. Gunther Burgard, Pharmact’s Medical Director said.
